Montuïri lies in the heart of the island, in the Es Pla region, between Palma and Manacor. The village itself sits on a hill with just under 3,000 inhabitants, windmills at its edge and a very honest everyday life: a small grocery shop, a baker, a greengrocer, two quiet cafés on the village square. No tourism in the classic sense, instead lively local festivals, a weekly market and a strong sense of neighbourhood. All around, the plain: wide fields, dry stone walls, almond blossoms in February. Hiking trails through the Serra de Tramuntana natural park are a good half hour away, the bays of the east coast such as Cala Mondragó or Portocolom around 25 minutes.
